The legislative power of each village sha11 <br />be vested in, and exereised by, a legislative authority9 <br />camposeci of six members, who shall be elected by the electors of <br />the village ar large, f or terms of four years. At the munieipal <br />election held in tne year 1961, six members shall be elected4 <br />-the f our candidates who receive the greatest number of votes <br />cast shall be elected for terms of four years, and the fiwo <br />candidates who receive the next greatest number of the votes <br />cast f or terms of two years. All candidates nominated prior <br />to the effective date of this act, by primary election or by <br />petition, shall have their names grouped togetner on the <br />election ballot regardless of whether their nominating petition <br />or declazation of candidacy desibnated that they were candidates <br />f or a two-»year or a f our-year teraa, <br />At the municiaal election in 1963 and quadrenially there- <br />after, two members shall be elected f or terms of f our years. <br />At the municipal election in 1965 and quadrenially thereafter, <br />four members shall be elected for terms of f our years. <br />Beginning taith the year 1964, all members of village <br />councils shall hold office for a term of four yearsa <br />Sec, 2s That existing Section 731.09 0f the Revised Code <br />is hereby repealed. <br />Sec, 3. This act is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />; necessary f or the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, <br />i and safety. The reason for such necessity lies in the f act that _ <br />its enactment.into law at the earliest possible time will, in regard <br />' to tne 1951 electione facilitate and minimize the expense of the <br />; printing of ballots and give the public and the candidates the <br />, maximum notice of the change in the election procedure. Therefore, <br />this aet will go into immediate eff ect," <br />Secq 2, That the Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to farward <br />certified copies of this Resolution to the Clerk of the Senate and to the Clerlc <br />,of the House of Representatives of the 104th General Assem.bly of the State of <br />;Ohio and to Senator Joseph W. BartLinek and to such other municipalities that may= <br />be interested in passing and f orwarding similar Resolutions to the Zegislature <br />of the State of Ohia.
