RESOLUTION NOa 82- ? <br />INTRQDUCED BY: Mayor & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE USE OF THE INTERNATIONAL <br />SALT C0, MINES AT WHISKEY ISLAND FOR NUCLEAR WASTE <br />DISPOSAL TESTSm <br />WHEREAS, the United States Department of Energy has proposed <br />the use of the International Salt Com Mines located under Lake <br />Erie at Whiskey Island for use in nuclear waste disposal tests; and <br />WHEREAS, such nuclear waste disposal tests present an imminent <br />threat to plant and animal life in and around Whiskey Island; and <br />WHEREAS, such nuclear waste disposal tests further present an <br />imminent threat of physical harm to the population of Northeastern <br />Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, said nuclear waste disposal tests presents a further <br />risk of imminent physical harm to Lake Erie itself which might <br />result in the contamination of waters used by the residents of <br />Northeastern Ohio for recreational purposes thereby causing a great <br />risk of physical harm to those persons so using the waters of Lake <br />Erie; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section l. The Mayor ancl Council of Mayfield Village, 'Ohio <br />adamantly oppose the use of the International Salt Co. Mines <br />located under Lake Erie at Wliiskey Island for use by the United <br />States Department of Energy in nuclear waste disposal tests. <br />Section 2. The <br />directed to f orward c <br />Reagan, to the United <br />Howard Metzenbaum and <br />all Clerks of Council <br />County. <br />Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />Dpies of this Resolution to President Ronald <br />States Department of Energy, to Senators <br />John Glenn, to a11 Ohio Congressmen and to <br />for municipalities located within Cuyahoga <br />Section 3, That the Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and <br />that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting <br />in such formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, <br />in compliance with all statutory requirements, including the <br />requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised.Code.
