RESOLUTION N0, 82-61 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Councilman Fred N. Carmen <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE COD?GRESS OF THE <br />UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO ENACT THE <br />PENDING LEGISLATION PROPOSING THE EQUAL <br />RIGHTS AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES <br />CONSTITUTION. <br />WHEREAS, the States have failed to ratify the proposed Equal <br />Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution within the time <br />specified by law; and , <br />WHEREAS, the failure to ratify the Equa1 Rights Amendment <br />has resulted in its failure to attain the status oi an Amendment <br />to the United States Constitution; and <br />WHEREAS, there has been reintroduced in the Congress of <br />the United States legislation proposing the enactment of the <br />Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Counc;_1 of Mayfield Village, Ohio, <br />have deterLnined that it is in the best interests of the citizenry <br />of the United States that the proposed'Equal Rights Amendment <br />become a part of the Federal Constitution; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section la The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio, <br />do here y urge the Congress of the United States of America to <br />enact the recently introduced legislation proposing the Equal <br />Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution and that the <br />enactment of such legislation be completed as soon as is practicable <br />in order to commence the ratification process by the States. <br />Section 2. The C1erk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directe to forward a copy of this legislation to President Ronald W. <br />Reagan, to United States Senators Howard Metzenbatun and John Glenn, <br />to all United States Representatives from Cuyahnga County and to <br />the Clerks of Council in the Hillcrest area. <br />Section 3. That the Council <br />formal actions of this Council rel. <br />Resolution have been taken at open <br />that deliberations of this Council <br />the public, in compliance with all <br />the requirements of Section 121.22 <br />finds and determines that all <br />3ting to the adoption of this <br />meetings of this Council; and <br />and of its committees open to <br />statutory requirements, including <br />of the Ohio Revised Code.
