RESOLUTLON N0. $2-7$ INTRODUCED BY: Mavor and Council as a WHole A RESOLUTION OPPOSING AN TNCREASE IN SERVICE RATES FdR ELECTRTCTTY AS PROPOSED BY THE CLEVELANll ELECTkIC TLLUMINATING COMPANY. Wi-IEREAS, the Clev?eland Electric I1luminating Company has given official notice of its intent to file an app"lication with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to amerid its filed rate schedules so as to increase rates and charges 21.5% to its residential users for electric service'in its entire service territory, including Mayfield Village; and WHEREAS, the Nlayor and Council deem the proposed amendments to the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co.`s rate schedules to be motivated solely by th.e company°s desire to generate excessive profits for the benefit of its corporate officers and shareh:olders rather than to genuine'increases in the cost of supplying eTectricity; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council regard the rate increase proposed by the Cleveland Electric T1luminating Co. as a gross abuse of monopoly power, h%ghly detrimerital of the public interest; and WHEREAS, the proposed rate increase, if adopted, would increase the burdens of inflation preseritly borne by the residerits of Mayfield Village and other communi.ties throughout Oh'io and would work a particular hardship on sen:ior citizeris and other individuals dependent on a fixed income; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFTELD VZLLAGE, OHIO, THAT: Section l. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio, vigorous y pose the granting of the rate increase currently being requested by the Cleveland E7,ectric Illuminating Coe for electric service within its service area. Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this kesolut'ion to the Clerk of the Public Utilities Commission of Ofiio, to Governor James A. Rhodes, to the Cuyahoga County State Delegation to the Gerieral Assembly and to the other municipal Councils with"in Cv:yahoga County. Section 3. That the Council finds and determines that all formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been takeri at open meetings of this Council; and that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such formal action, took place in meetings operi to the public, in compliance with all statutory requiremerits, including the requirements of Section 121.22 of th.e Oh'io Revised Code.
