RESOLUTLON N0. $2-7$ <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mavor and Council as a WHole <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING AN TNCREASE IN SERVICE <br />RATES FdR ELECTRTCTTY AS PROPOSED BY THE CLEVELANll <br />ELECTkIC TLLUMINATING COMPANY. <br />Wi-IEREAS, the Clev?eland Electric I1luminating Company has <br />given official notice of its intent to file an app"lication with the <br />Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to amerid its filed rate schedules <br />so as to increase rates and charges 21.5% to its residential users <br />for electric service'in its entire service territory, including <br />Mayfield Village; and <br />WHEREAS, the Nlayor and Council deem the proposed amendments <br />to the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co.`s rate schedules to be <br />motivated solely by th.e company°s desire to generate excessive profits <br />for the benefit of its corporate officers and shareh:olders rather <br />than to genuine'increases in the cost of supplying eTectricity; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council regard the rate increase <br />proposed by the Cleveland Electric T1luminating Co. as a gross abuse <br />of monopoly power, h%ghly detrimerital of the public interest; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed rate increase, if adopted, would increase <br />the burdens of inflation preseritly borne by the residerits of Mayfield <br />Village and other communi.ties throughout Oh'io and would work a <br />particular hardship on sen:ior citizeris and other individuals dependent <br />on a fixed income; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFTELD VZLLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section l. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio, <br />vigorous y pose the granting of the rate increase currently being <br />requested by the Cleveland E7,ectric Illuminating Coe for electric <br />service within its service area. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a copy of this kesolut'ion to the Clerk of the <br />Public Utilities Commission of Ofiio, to Governor James A. Rhodes, <br />to the Cuyahoga County State Delegation to the Gerieral Assembly and <br />to the other municipal Councils with"in Cv:yahoga County. <br />Section 3. That the Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been takeri at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in <br />such formal action, took place in meetings operi to the public, in <br />compliance with all statutory requiremerits, including the requirements <br />of Section 121.22 of th.e Oh'io Revised Code.
