DENTAL CLAIM Form obtained from employer by employees (for themselves or <br />FORM dependents) before going to dentist. <br />DENTURE An artificial substitute for missing natural teeth and adjacent tissues. <br /> Apartia/denture is a substitute of one or more (but not all) <br /> natural teeth. <br />ENDODONTICS A branch of dentistry which deals primarily with the treatment of <br /> diseased tooth pulp and adjacent areas in the jaw. <br />INLAY A cast restoration made to fit a tooth cavity preparation and then <br /> cemented into place. <br />LIST OF DENTAL The list of Basic and Major services for which changes are eligible under <br />SERVICES Dental Expense Insurance. The list may be found in your Booklet <br /> Certificate. <br />MAJOR SERVICES Crowns, inlays and prosthetics (bridges, dentures and partial dentures, <br /> etc.). For a complete list see the List of Dental Services in your Booklet <br /> Certificate. <br />MAXIMUM The maximum amount of benefits for all services under Dental Expense <br />AMOUNT Insurance is 51,200 for an individual in a Benefit Year. <br />OCCLUSION The contact relationship of the teeth in the upper and lower jaws in the <br /> closed position. <br />PEDODONTICS The speciality of dentistry concerned with the teeth and mouth <br /> conditions of children. <br />PERIODONTICS The branch of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of <br /> tissues which surround and support the teeth. <br />PONTIC The part of a fixed bridge which is suspended between abutments and <br /> which replaces a missing tooth or teeth. Also an artificial tooth in a <br /> removable denture. <br />PROPHYLAXIS Prevention of disease through cleaning of the teeth by a dentist or <br /> dental hygienist. <br />PROSTHODONTICS The branch of dentistry which deals with the replacement of missing <br /> teeth and structures by artificial devices. <br />ROOT CANAL Treatment of a tooth having a damaged pulp (or surrounding area). <br />THERAPY Normally performed by completely removing the pulp, sterilizing the <br /> pulp chamber and root canals and filling those spaces with a filling <br /> material. <br />SPACE A fixed or removable appliance placed to maintain space created by the <br />MAINTAINERS premature loss of a tooth or teeth. It may also be used to create space <br /> by means of moving teeth apart while holding that space open. <br />TREATMENT PLAN A plan of dental treatment recommended by the dentist. Plans which <br /> will result in charges of more than 5100 must be reviewed by Prudential <br /> before being started. This helps you to know in advance how much of <br /> the cost will be covered by insurance. Emergency treatments will NOT <br /> be delayed by the requirement for a Treatment Plan. <br />~• <br />• <br />
