days after pouring, but this clause is not intended to pxevent remoging the joists <br />and lagging in less time provided the slabs are kept properly shored. <br />Sec.148a TNSPECTION AND TESTS. lrlhen ar?y rein=oxced concrete is used in con- <br />struction, the rnmer shall provided for the inspectioil,. of eement and inert.s, as <br />required by the Inspector of Buildingsv Unless otherwise &uthorized in writing bar <br />the Inspector of Buildings, the owner shall also provide a special inspector of the <br />work who'shall be satigfactory at all times to the Inspector of ?3uildings, and who <br />sliall be on the work continually during the mixing and the placing of concrete and <br />steel and the x'emo4al of forms. Su.ch special inspector shall make daily written re- <br />ports to the Inspector of Builclings on the progr.ess of the work. <br />Before reinforced concrete work is started, the owner shall name in writing <br />the special inspector and such inspector shall pass such exaraina$ion as may oe re- <br />quired by the Inspector of Buildings to determine his competency. <br />Before a building containing reinforced concrete floors is occu?S.BC?.' the <br />floors shall-be tested by applyirg a lbad equal to two and one-half (?) times the <br />figured live load to such parts as the Inspector of Buildings or deputies may se- <br />lect. 'Fhe floor shall sustain this load for ai; least twenty-fotzr (24)hours, with- <br />out cracking or evident signs of failure. <br />Sec.149. CONCRETF BLOCK COliSTRUCTION. (a) Concrete building blocks may be <br />used for building two stories or less in height when the same is of frarne or tile <br />construction where such blocks have passed the test hereinafter specifiedo <br />Concrete shall be composed of at least one (1) part Portland cement and not <br />rnore than tnree ( 3). parts sand, and not to exceed five ( 5) parts crushed,rock or <br />gravel. • - . <br />The cement, sand-and a.ggregate shall comply with the requirements specified <br />in-Section 87-89-143 for these materials. ln no case shall the walls or vrebs of <br />' the blocks be less in thickness than one-quarter (-?) of the height. The hollow <br />space in any block shall not exceed thirty-five (35) per cent. _ ,. <br />(b) The thickness of walls for any building when.concrete blocks are used, <br />shall be the same as the thickness of a brick wall, exc_ept `vhere the allowable crusn- <br />ing strength of such wall is egceeded; then the thickness imzst be increased. <br />An eight inch block shall be considered one ll) brick,-uhick in vrall meauure- <br />ments. <br />Vaere the face of a building is of concrete building block, and the backing <br />if of brick tne facing of concre-L-e blocks must be. rvell bonclea to the brick, with <br />headers projecting four (4) inches into the brick woTk, every fourth course being a <br />header course. All raalls where blocks sre used sha.ll be laid with Portland cement <br />mortar. <br />(c)-All con.crete blocks before being used in const.ruction,in buildings shall <br />have obtain the age of at least four (4) weeks. Szch blocks shall develop a crush- <br />ing strength of 'fiftieen hundred (1500) pounds per square inch at tvrenty-eight days. <br />UVhere girders, beams or joists rest" on the walls so that the.end reaction ex- <br />ceeds four thousand (4,000) pounds the blocks beloev such concentrated loads must be <br />made solid a distance bd]:ow and to the side, as may b.e required by ?he Inspector of <br />Buildings. _ <br />Concrete sills and lintels spanning over fou r l4) feet six (6) inches shall <br />be reinforced and the ends rest in solid bl-ocks or solid walls.
