When combustible construc-
tion is protected as set forth in subsection
1591,32 (a) ii, the clearance distance may be
reduced to 6 inches or to such lesser dis-
tance as may be approved in subsection (b)
of this Section.
(b) Permissible reduction. Ceiling-type
direct-fired unit heaters which have been
tested by an accredited testing agency and
approved by said agency for installation with
lesser clearances than specified in subsection
(a) of this Section may be installed with
clearances specified in such approval unless
and until otherwise ordered by the Board of
Building Code Appeals.
1591.35 Direct-fired wall heaters.
Direct-fired heaters shall not be installed
in walls of combustible construction unless
approved by the Board of Building Code
Appeals.
1591.36 Clearance for steam or hot water
unit heaters.
Steam or hot water unit heaters shall be
installed to provide clearances of not less
than 1 inch from all heated portions thereof
to combustible material, whether plastered
or unplastered.
1591.37 Controls for existing heating instal-
lations.
Whenever an existing furnace is rein-
stalled, replaced, moved, converted for use
of other fuel from that previously used, or
otherwise materially altered, it shall be
equipped with a temperature limit control
operating as specified for new installations
in Sections 1591.22 to 1591.29 inclusive, ex-
cept that existing temperature limit controls
may be retained without change.
® • 33 National Standards § 1521.29
1521.23 National Warm Air Heating and.Air Conditioning Association.
Manual 3-1950 Measuring Heat Losses.
Manual 5-1950 Design and Installation of Gravity Warm Air Heating Systems,
Manual 7-1950 Design and Installation of Warm Air Winter Air Conditioning Sys-
tems.
Manual ?-A 1950 Design and Installation of Warm Air Ceiling Panel Systems.
Manual 8-1948 Yardstick for Classifying Warm Air Wintea• Air Conditioning Sys-
tems.
1521.24 Standards of the Steel'Joist Institute.
Oct, 20/49 Standard Specifications for Open Web Steel Joist Construction.
1521.25 Publications of the Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc.
May 1952 ~ Electrical Equipment List.
Jan. 1952 Fire Protection Equipment List.
Nov. 1952 Gas and Oil Equipment List.
Subject 723 Standard Test Method for Fire Hazard Classification of Building
August 1950 Materials.
1521.26 Army and Navy specifications.
MIL-A-5534 Military Specifications:
Jan. 1950 Adhesive; High Temperature Setting Resin (Phenol, Melamine,
and Resorcinol Base).
JAN-A-397 Joint Army-Navy Specification:
Sept. 1946 Adhesive; Thermosetting-Resin, Room-Temperature and Interme-
Amend. 10/48 diate-Temperature Setting, Waterproof (Phenolic, Resorcinol,
and Melamine Base) (for Wood) .
152127 Commercial Standards of the Department of Commerce.
CS 4-29 _ Staple Porcelain (All Clay) Plumbing Fixtures.
CS 20-49 Vitreous China Plumbing Fixtures,
CS 31-38 Wood Shingles (fourth edition).
CS 35-49 Hardwood Plywood (fourth edition) .
CS 42-49 Structural Fiber Insulating Board
CS 45-48 Douglas Fir Plywood (eighth edition} ,
CS 48-40 Domestic Burners for Pennsylvania Anthracite (Underfeed Type) .
CS 75-42 Automatic Mechanical Draft Oil Burners Designed for Domestic
Installations.
CS 77-51 Enameled Cast-Iron Plumbing Fixtures.
CS 99-42 Gas Floor Furnaces; Gravity Circulating Type.
CS101-43 Flue-Connected Oil-Burning Space Heaters Equipped with, Vapor-
izing Pat-Type Burners.
CS104-49 Warm-Air Furnaces Equipped with Vaporizing-Type Oil Burners,
CS109-44 Solid-Fuel-Burning Forced-Air Furnaces.
C5111-43 Earthenware (Vitreous-Glazed) Plumbing Fixtures.
CS113-44 Oil Burning Floor Furnaces Equipped with Vaporizing Pot-Type
Burners.
CS116-44 Bituminized Fiber Drain and Sewer Pipe.
CS125-47 Prefabricated Homes (second edition).
1521.28 Federal Housing Administration;
Housing and Home Finance Agency.
FHA-2550 Tables of Maximum Allowable Spans for Wood Floor Joists, Ceiling
March 1950 Joists, Rafters, in Residential Construction.
HHFA Performance Standards; Structural and Insulation Requirements
June 1947 for Houses.
1521.29 Federal Specifications, General Services Administration.
• • C-G-456-1941 Casein-Type Water Resistant Glue.
C-G=496-1944 Resin Type (liquid and powder) Glue.
