nGtr <br />SPECIFICA'~IONS <br />STREET EXCAVAT~rON <br />E'tC_1V AT ION <br />The Contractor-shall grade .the street to the lines and grades sho~m by the <br />Engineer's stakes, and all slopes and surfaces must conform vrith the cross- <br />section shoti^m on the plan, <br />The excavated material shall be placed in embankments 1°rithin the limits of <br />this contract, as directed by the Engineer. Any excess excavated material <br />shall be deposited upon low 1•and.s fronting on tl7e improvement, the of=rner's <br />z^mitten consent having first been obtained by the Contractor, In the event <br />filling sites adjacent to the improvement are not availa'ole, the Contractor <br />shall dispose of excess excavated materials"at sites or. dumps provided at iris <br />ovan expense. In filling adjacent lo,^r lands, the fill sLa~_1 be levelled off to <br />a uniform surface, care being taken not to fill or obstruct any natural surface <br />drainage channels or pipe drain openings. All fills rsithin -Lhe street limits <br />exceeding tz~~relve (12) inches in depth shall be made in layers not more than <br />_ t~~~~e1ve (12) inches thick, and sha7.l be thoroughly t;osnpa.cted by means of a self- <br />~~ propelled roller ~~reighing not less than six (6) tons . All organic or other per-- <br />~ fishable and spongy material shall be excluded from fills ~~~rithin the street limits. <br />P O'1't~CTION OF STAI~.~S <br />After sta'ces have been set, it shall be the duty of the Contr~,.ctor an~iliis <br />employees to protect them. Stakes which become moved or disturbed t~,rill. be re- <br />set by thc~Engineer, and the cost of such replacement shall be borne by the <br />Contractor. <br />PP~OT:~CTION OI'';iATi+iR AND SE"';~'R APPtJRTEPiANCES <br />The Contractor" ;:fill be Yield responsible for any da?:.,:~.~;e done to fire hy- <br />drants, z^rater valves, v^.lvo boxes and curb valve boxes. If not set. to' proper <br />grade, their vrill be adjusted by the City of Cleveland ?'rater Department, or as <br />directed by the Engineer. " <br />The Contractor shall adjust to grade all manhole a?zd c:~.tchbasin covers, as <br />directec'. by the Engineer, Payment for adjustment of these items t^ri11 be made <br />at the unit price set forth in the proposal. <br />P ?~Y'.iENT <br />The contract price per cubic yard of excavation shall include clearing the <br />surface from all gro,~rths of undergroti~rth and trees, re~ioval and disposal of • <br />earth, rock, shale or other material encountered, and the formation of slopes, <br />sections, embankments and filling as herein specis"ied and in conformity with <br />the improvement plans. All material excavated grill be measured in the place <br />excavated, by the method of average end sections on fifty (50) foot stations. <br />
