SPECIG'ICATIONS <br />STREET SIGNS <br />.~ <br />GEN~i.A.L: Each assembly unit shall consist of either four (for ~ way) or two (for <br />2~cvaysingle faced porcelain sign plates' extruded aluminum channel frames together <br />with all necessary hardware and fixtures for assembling and mounting a complete unit <br />on top of a steel post. <br />SIGN PL,4TES: There are to be either foul or t~c~ro 611 x 1811 (or longer ~ necessar,~) <br />porcelain sign plates for each sets made to fit the frames properly. The sign plates <br />shall have a base of x#18 gauge enamelling iron or steel. Each plate shall have one <br />coat of ground enamel9 and two (2) coats of porcelain enamel to produce a rich glossy <br />finish. The street names are to be indicated by four (~.) inch Public Roads Admini- <br />stration style embossed letter s vaith standard abbreviations in white on a black <br />background <br />FRATdIE,S ; The frames are to be made of one-piece extruded alLUninum alloy 6063-T5 having <br />a natural aluminum finish. Individual continuous extruded grooves are to be provided <br />to receive and firmly hold each sign plate vrh ich is to be horizontally inserted in the <br />frame and locked therein with a speci ally designed internal alurn:intun fastening device. <br />FIXTURES & HARD~iVART;': To consist of; <br />(a) An iron post cap with set screws. <br />(b) A one half inch square-head machine bolt for supporting <br />the sign plates and threading into a cast aluminum ball <br />burnished spear point finial for rigidly locl~zg the <br />entire assembly unit. <br />(c) Stamped aluminum center clip for ~. yvay signs for holding <br />the frames in pairs at angular street intersections, <br />A11 exposed hardware and fixtures shall be r!on-ferrous or ru.st- <br />proofed by hot-dip galvanizing. <br />POSTS; The hosts are to be of 2-1211 OD (outside diameter) galvanized iron pipe 10' 011 <br />to lOt 611 in length. A one-half (1211) inch anchor rod nine inches long shall be fur- <br />nished to f it a hole six (611) inches from the end of the post. <br />GUARADITEE: The complete metal frame construction and sign plates are to be guaranteed <br />FOR A PEF'iIOD OF FIFTEEN (15) Y-~RS under ordinary usage and against the actions of the <br />elements. <br />DELIVERY: The sign platesy frames and fixtures shall be furnished complete and ready <br />to assemble and install. The delivery of the frames, posts and assembling parts shall be- <br />gin within two (2) to four (!.~) weeks and the sign plates shall follow ~nrithin thirty <br />(30) days thereafterm <br />INSTALL4TION: The posts shall be installed within the tree lawn but outside of the <br />sidewalk. A hole 1211 in diameter and 31 O1' deep shall be made and the pole with the <br />-,~~ anchor rod end down shall be placed in the hole to a depth of 2' 611® Concrete shall <br />then be placed around the pole and brought to ground level. Extreme care shall b e <br />ta1_{en to insure that the pole is true and plumb. After the concrete has set' the <br />pole shall be given tvo (2) coats of quality b1a ck enamel paint. <br />
