ORDINANCE No. 748 <br />By Mr. Zorn <br />AN ORDINANCE AGREEING TO PAY A PRORATED SHARE <br />OF THE COST OF OPPOSING THE INCREASE, IN RATES <br />SOUGHT BY THE EAST OHIO GAS COMPANY <br />WHEREAS, natural gas is necessary for the continued good health of <br />our residents; and <br />WHEREAS, The East Ohio Gas Company is the principal retailer of natural <br />gas in the Village of Niayf field; and <br />EJIIEREAS, The East Ohio Gas Company has filed for an average increase in <br />rates of 27.1% to its residential consumers; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed increases are highly inflationary, since they <br />exceed the rise in the cost of living over the past decade; and <br />L,THEREAS, the proposed changes would increase the per capita cost of <br />gas by about $10.00 per year, or the cost to each customer by about $37.78 <br />per year; and <br />WHEREAS, the average residential natural gas bills to customers of <br />The East Ohio Gas Company presently exceed those of most consumers in our <br />neighboring states; and <br />WHEREAS, the very magnitude of the proposed increases requires that <br />they may be examined in the greatest possible detail; and <br />WHEREAS, the cost of such a study to the Village of Mayfield can be <br />lessened through sharing said costs with Cleveland and other communities <br />upon an equitable basis; and <br />WHEREAS, this ordinance constitutes an emergency measure to protect <br />the residents of the Village of Mayf field against. unreasonable rates for <br />their principal fuel. <br />NOW THEP.EFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF HAYFIELD <br />CUYAHOGA COUNTY OHIO, THATs <br />Sec. 1. The Village of Mayf field hereby agrees to pay its prorated <br />share, as hereinafter def fined, of the costs incurred and to be incurred by <br />the City of Cleveland, Ohio, in all matters pertinent to the increase in gas <br />
