RESOLUTION NOe 86° 18 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Councilman George F. Goley <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING H.B. 57 IN THE <br />OHIO GENERAL ASSEMBLY. <br />WHEREAS, H.B. 57 is currently pending before the Ohio <br />General Assembly; and <br />WHEREAS, H.B. 57 establishes requirements for the owners of <br />handguns including a requirement that handgun owners obtain an <br />identification card and register themselves with their local police <br />department; and <br />WHEREAS, H.B. 57 would impose, upon local police <br />departments, a responsibility for processing and issuing the identifi- <br />cation cards and handgun registration requirements; and <br />WHEREASo the provisions of H.B. 57 impose an undue harc]ship <br />upon local law enforcement agencies that have limited resources and <br />manpower and would detract from their responsibilities for law <br />enforcement; and <br />WHEREAS, the provisions of H.B. 57 would be all but <br />unenforceable; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THATa <br />Section 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, <br />Ohio hereby oppose the enactment of H.B. 57 currently pending before <br />the Ohio General Assembly. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Cuyahoga County <br />delegation to the Ohio General Assembly and in so doing to request a <br />written response from each such legislator. <br />Section 3.
