RESOLUTION N0. 88-11 <br />INTRODUCED BY: MAYOR CARMEN AND THE ENTIRE COUNCIL <br />A RFSOLUTION <br />URGING THE PRESIDSNT AND CONGRESS <br />OF THE U1dITSD STATSS TO EXELtCISE <br />THEIR POWffiZS IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE <br />THE FUTURE OF THE SURPLUS FOOD PROGRAM <br />WHEREAS, The Council of Mayfield Village has been notified that the <br />future o£ the Federal Government's Surplus Food Program is in serious danger; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the distribution of cheese will terminate as of May, 1988;and <br />WHEREAS, all other commodities distributed through the Surplus Food <br />Program are guaranteed only until 7une, 1988;and <br />WHSREAS, the Program successfully supplied needy families in this and <br />other communities across the country with the vital nutrients necessary to <br />live a healthier life; and <br />r <br />WHEREAS, the elimination of the Surplus Food Program would have a <br />significant impact on many Mayfield Village and United States Citizens, and <br />place these persons in a position of severe physical and economic hardship. <br />NOW, THSLZHFORE, BE IT RESOLVSD by the Council o£ Mayfield Village, County <br />of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, that: <br />SECTION 1: This Council hereby officially urges the President and <br />Congress of the United States to take any and all executive or legislative <br />action that would ensure the continued success of the Federal Government's <br />Surplus Food Program. <br />SECTION 2: The Clerk of Council be and hereby is authorized and directed <br />to transmit a copy o£ this resolution to President Ronald Reagan, Governor <br />Richard Celeste, Senator John Glenn, Senator Howard Metzenbaum, Congressman <br />Edward F. Feighan, State Senator Lee Eisher, State Representative Ronald J. <br />Suster, other neighboring communities and to the local news media.
