RESOLUTION No. 599 <br />By Mr. Sloan <br />A RESOLUTION CONIf~1ENDING 6tiTTLLIAM SHONTZ ON HIS <br />,ACCEPTANCE TO M~IBEHSHIP IN_THE SCHOOL BAND.OF <br />AMERICA, ENDORSING THE.FORTHCOMING.TRIP.TO_ <br />EUROPE AND ENCOURAGING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HELP <br />SEND HIM ON THIS TOUR <br />WHEP.EAS, it has come to the attention of Council of the Village of <br />Mayfield, Ohio, that William Shoiitz, a Senior in the local High School and <br />a member of the~Wildcat Band, has been accepted to membership in the School <br />Band of America; and . <br />WHEREAS, the School Band of America is a non-profit oug~anization <br />dedicated to the promotion of American music education and its influence in <br />the area of International relations and this band in 1963 received standing <br />ovations from twenty European audiences averaging over 2000 members each; and <br />WHEREAS, the European Concert Tours of the School Band of America are <br />officially endorsed by the Music Committee of the People to People Program, <br />sanctioned by the United States State Department and assisted by the United <br />States Inf ormation Service; and _ . <br />~JHEP.EAS, American governmental officials in Europe and European <br />government authorities have repeatedly stated that the School Band of America <br />Concerts and related activities are the major events on their yearts calendar <br />for projecting a dignified image of American youth to Europeans; and <br />WHEREAS, the 1964 Tour leaves New York on June 11, will visit and <br />present concerts in The Hague, Oudenaarde, Brusse7,s,Spa, Heidelberg, Nuernberg, <br />Munich, Innsbruclc, Venice, Florence, Genoa,_Nice, Marseilles, Lyons, Paris, <br />and London, and then will finish w~.th a concert in New York City on July 10; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, all members of the School Band of America are responsible <br />for their own expenses, and the cost per member is $878.00, of which $150.00 <br />is due February 1st, and $728.00 by May 1st, and this cost is prohibitive <br />for a single individual, thereby making it necessary that the members of <br />this band be subsidized by organizations and individuals in the community <br />in which they live. <br />NOG7 THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL, OF THE VILLAGE OF HAYFIELD, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA ANp STATE OF .OHIO., THAT: _ -- -- <br />
