04/14/89 <br />RESOLUTION N0. 89- Zp <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION <br />OPPOSING THE ISSUANCE OF A PERMIT TO <br />GSX CHEMICAL SERVICES OF OHIO, INC. FOR A <br />TOXIC WASTE INCINERATOR <br />WHEREAS, presently pending before the Ohio Hazardous Waste Facility Board <br />is an application for a permit by GSX Chemical Services o£ Ohio, Inc. to <br />operate a toxic waste incinerator at 7415 Bessemer Avenue in Cleveland; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council believes that the operation of said £acility would <br />create additional health and safety risks due to the processing o£ hazardous <br />and toxic wastes and the transportation of said wastes to and from this <br />facility; and <br />WHEREAS, Cleveland residents in the area in which said facility is to be <br />located have voiced strong objection to the granting of the proposed permit <br />because of the health and safety risks involved; and <br />WHEREAS, because of facility's proximity to the Hillcrest Area, its <br />operation could also pose a risk to Hillcrest residents as well as to the <br />residents of Cleveland; and <br />WHEREAS, in support of the residents of Cleveland, and because of risks <br />to health and safety were such facility to become operational, this Council <br />opposes the granting of a permit by the Ohio Hazardous Waste Facility Board to <br />GSX Chemical Services of Ohio, Inc. for the proposed toxic waste incinerator <br />at 7415 Bessemer Avenue in Cleveland. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. This Council hereby urges the Ohio Hazardous Waste Facility <br />Board to deny the permit application of GSX Chemical Services of Ohio, Inc., <br />for the operation of a toxic waste incinerator at 7415 Bessemer Avenue in <br />Cleveland, as said operation would pose a serious risk to the health and <br />safety of the community. <br />SECTION 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to <br />transmit a copy of this resolution to the Ohio Hazardous Waste facility Board, <br />Governor Richard Celeste, Mayor George Voinovich, Cuyahoga County Board of <br />Commissioners; State Senator Lee Fisher; State Representative Ronald J. <br />Suster, other neighboring communities and the local news media.
