03/30/89 <br />RESOLUTION N0. 89- 21. <br />INTRODIICED BY: Mayor Carmen and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION <br />OPPOSING ACTION OF TH6 OffiO <br />GIINffi2AL ASSffiIBLY TO REQUII2L+ <br />ZSD MOTOR VffiCLB SXHAUST I <br />WffitIIAS, the United States EPA has mandated vehicle exhaust inspection <br />programs for Greater Cleveland and Cincinnati, and the Ohio General Assembly <br />has provided for decentralized motor vehicle exhaust inspections; and <br />WHERREAS, the Ohio General Assembly is presently considering legislation <br />to require a mandated vehicle exhaust inspection program at centralized <br />locations xequiring all motor vehicle owners to travel great distances for the <br />required inspections; and <br />WHSREAS, only by decentralized inspection will the pnblic be served and <br />will time and money saving inspections be adequate to accomplish the ultimate <br />result of reducing the emission o£ carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon into the <br />air. <br />Wffi2BAS, any such program should continue to be handled on a decentral- <br />ized basis within local communities for the benefit of citizens who own and <br />operate motor vehicles. <br />BE IT RFSOLVSD BY THS COUNCIL OF MAYFIII.D VILLAGE, Offi0, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, for and on behalf <br />of all its citizens, hereby strongly urge the Ohio General Assembly to <br />continue the centralized stations £or any mandated motor vehicle exhaust <br />inspection program. <br />SHCTION 2. The Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to State Senator <br />Lee I. Fisher, Ohio Representative Ronald J. Suster, Speaker of the House <br />Vernal G. Riffe, President of the Senate Stanley Arnoff, members of the <br />Senate Energy, Natural Resources and Environment Committee and Senator Gary <br />Suhadolnik. <br />?
