RESULUTIOId N0. - 759
BY: MR. FITZ-GERALD
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE INTERIM SCOTS RECOMMENDATION OF
THE NORTHERLY CORRIDOR OF I-290.
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Ohio appointed a task force
to designate a corridor for I-290; and
WHEREAS, such task force has as yet made no final recommendation
to the Governor; and
WHEREAS, the Cleveland Seven-County Transportation Land Use Study
Group (SCOTS) has made an interim recommendation which suggests a crescent
slLaped area for such corridor which caould adversely affect property in the
Village of Mayfield and 'other communities; and
WHEREAS, such interim recommendation is not in the best interests
of this and surrounding communities for reasons not limited to, but including
the following:
A. The proposed northern corridor would be less than three (3)
miles from existing I-90, whereas, it would best serve a majority of uses
and users by being more centrally located between I-90 and I-80.
B. The recommended 'northern route is fourteen (14) miles long,
and creates a swath through homes and industrial property throughout its
distance, whereas, a proposed southerly route (Clark Freeway) is only nine
(9) miles in length, and almost half of that distance could utilize the
existing Shaker Boulevard area with little dislocation of business, industry
and residences.
C. The proposed northerly route will do great damage to the newly
developed business and industrial areas to the east of this community.
D. The area to the south of this community is more congested and
has greater need of the proposed corridor.
P10W, THEREFOP.E, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE-COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
riAYFIELD, OHIO:
Section 1. That the Council is completely and unalterably opposed
to the SCOTS Interim Report which recommends priority for a northerly corridor
which is routed through this community and communities to the east for I-290.
Section 2. That the Mayor is requested to exert all of his efforts
to convey this expression of feeling to the public and SCOTS, so that all
action necessary shall take effect and~be in force at the earliest time allowed
by law.
