ORDINANCE N0. 85-16 <br />Page -2- <br />1185.02 Establishing Regulations. <br />(a) Signs shall be designed, erected, altered, recon- <br />structed, moved and maintained, in whole or in part, in <br />accordance with the type, design, size, location, illumi- <br />nation and other provisions set forth in this Chapter. <br />(b) The construction, erection, safety, maintenance <br />and painting of all signs shall be in accordance with this <br />Chapter and with the Mayfield Village Building Code. The <br />provisions of this Chapter shall not amend or in any way <br />modify other codes, rules, or regulations governing traffic <br />signs within the municipality or other signs erected by <br />public authority within the municipality. <br />(c) The display of official public notices and the <br />flag, emblem or insignia of an official governmental body <br />shall not be affected by these regulations. Nor shall <br />signs used for safety purposes relative to the repair or <br />maintenance of streets, sidewalks or of utilities in the <br />public right-of-way be aff ected by the provisions of these <br />regulations. Name and informational signs containing <br />emblems of service clubs, places of worship, civic organi- <br />zations and the like consolidated within a single frame <br />placed on public property with permission of the Building <br />Commissioner are not subject to these regulations provided <br />such emblems do not exceed three (3) square feet in area, <br />the frame does not exceed eight (8) f eet above natural <br />grade and the sign is not illuminated. <br />(d) The provisions of this Chapter shall not apply to <br />patriotic lighting or to holiday display lighting. <br />1185.03 Classification of Signs. <br />(a) "Sign" means any display, figure, word, number, <br />symbol, geometric shape, model, painting, drawing, placard, <br />letter, poster, pennant, insignia, device or other structure <br />or representation of combinations thereof visible from a <br />public way which is c7esigned, intended or used to convey a <br />message, advertise, inf orm or direct attention to a person, <br />institution, organization, business activity, place, object <br />or product. <br />(b) Classification by Functional Type. <br />(1) Abancloned SiQn means a sign which no longer <br />directs or exhorts, advertises a bona fide business, <br />lessor, lessee, owner, product or activity conducted <br />or available on the premises where the sign is <br />located. <br />(2) Billboard means a sign directing attention to <br />a specific business, product, service, entertainment <br />or any other activities solci, offered or conducted
