Office of the Mayor <br />AUTISM AWARENESS WEEK <br />?• o•' ?Ql? L??. the National Society for <br />Autistic Children has addressed the education, training <br />and welfare of autistic children and adults, anc3 <br />encouraged research in the causes, treatment and cure <br />of autism for almost 20 years, presently serving more than <br />500 autistic persons in the Greater Cleveland area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Greater Cleveland Chapter for <br />Autistic Citizens, an affiliate of the National Society, <br />promotes an awareness of autism in the community, provides <br />parental support and advocate service in the areas of <br />education, vocational training and residential care for <br />,persons with autism; and <br />of each autistic person; and <br />WFIEREAS, research has established that_autism is a <br />c7isability with distinctly physiologically related <br />characteristics and symptoms involving sensory impairments, <br />for which services need to be caref ully geared to the needs <br />WHEREAS, the continuing welfare of the State <br />requires this and future generations of autistic children <br />and adults be assured the residential, educational and <br />vocational opportunities to develop their fullest potential <br />uncler the principle of normaliaation in the least restric- <br />tive environment. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Fred N. Carmen, Mayor of <br />Mayfield Village, Ohio, do hereby designate and proclaim the <br />week of December 1- 7, 1985 as <br />AUTISM AWARENESS WEEK <br />in the Mayfield Village.
