,. . _. _.. _ .:~t~~.
.. ,..: ,
~- - e
~'- 12-19-86
t DATE:
T0: ALL PERSONNEL
FROM: Chief Stevens
suB~ECT: CLEAN AIR HOTLINE... [461-0425]
The enforcement provisions of the newly-enacted Clean Indoor Air Ordinance
(#86-7) require the fire department to establish a telephone number. through
which complaints by citizens relating to violations of this ordinance can be
reported.
This telephone number [461-0425] has been added to the two telephone consoles
in the communications room. Please note that this number only rings at this
location; it does not ring into the fire department. Police personnel shall
not use .this phone line for any other purpose unless an emergency .situation
would dictate other action.
Presumably, the Village will.be publicizing this phone number and its intended
purpose prior to the effective date of this ordinance, on or about January 18,
1987.
Calls to this number should 'be answered in a timely fashion and should be '
answered, "Clean Air Hotline..."
If a Clean Indoor Air violation is being reported, take the same information
from the complainant as you would with any other incident. Obtain the caller's
name, address and telephone numbers}; and ascertain the date, time and location
of the alleged violation or complaint. Record this data and any other pertinent
information on a condition report and forward same to the fire department as
described below. The caller should be informed that their complaint will be
investigated by the fire department, and that they may be contacted by a fire
department investigator.
If such calls are received between 7:30am and 11:OOpm, they should be forwarded
immediately to the fire department personnel on duty. Calls received after
11:OOpm should be held until 7:30am the next morning.
Presumably, callers on this "hotline" will either be reporting violations or
inquiring as to other details pertaining to this ordinance. Questions which
you can not answer can be directed to the fire department's non-emergency
phone number (461-1208) during normal business hours (Monday through Friday,
Sam to 5pm).
Thank you,
Donald H. Stevens, Chief of Police
