ORDINANCE N0. 86-16 <br />Page -2- <br />election in 1989 and every fourth year thereafter <br />for a term of four (4) years commencing on the <br />first day of January next after such election or <br />until their successors are elected and qualified." <br />The ballot question for the above-proposed Charter amendment <br />shall read as follows: <br />Shall Article III, Section 1 of the Charter <br />of Mayfield Village, Ohio, be amended to increase <br />the size of Council from five (5) to seven (7) <br />members with three (3) members elected at-large <br />and four (4) members elected from the Wards, <br />all of whom shall serve a term of four (4) years? <br />Section 2._ The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to certify a copy of this Ordinance to the Cuyahoga County <br />Board of Elections not less than sixty (60) nor more than one hundred <br />twenty (120) days prior to the regularly scheduled General Election on <br />November 4, 1986 in order to have the ballot issues contained herein <br />placed on the ballot for this said General Election and to take <br />whatever other steps are necessary in order to comply with all <br />directives of the said Board of Elections in order to secure placement <br />on the ballot as aforesaid. <br />Section 3. The Director of Law is hereby authorized and <br />directed to confer with the Board of Elections of Cuyahoga County, <br />Ohio and the Secretary of State for the State of Ohio regarding the <br />ballot questions and to make any changes necessary to comply with <br />current election law so long as the substance of any issue is not <br />changed. In the event of the necessity of a substantial change of any <br />issue, the Council shall first be consulted. <br />Section 4. At least thirty (30) days prior to the date of <br />the election as set forth in the Ordinance, the Clerk of Council is <br />hereby directed to mail a copy of the full text of the proposed <br />Charter amendment to each elector of the municipality whose name <br />appears upon the registration books for the last regular election held <br />in the municipality. <br />Section 5. That the Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Ordinance have been taken at open meetings of this~Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such <br />formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, in <br />compliance with all statutory requirements including the requirements <br />of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />
