RESOLUTION NO. 87- 35 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY <br />CHAPTER OF THE OHIO WATERFOWL ASSOCIATION AND THE <br />LEAGUE OF OHIO SPORTSMEN IN THEIR EFFORTS TO <br />ESTABLISH A WETLAND WILDLIFE RESERVE IN THE <br />CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL RECREATION AREA. <br />WHEREAS, provision has been made for the Cuyahoga Valley <br />National Recreation Area to provide resources enabling the pursuit and <br />enjoyment of various types of outdoor recreational activities; and <br />there is a severe lack of suitable areas in <br />Cuyahoga and Summit Counties for interested residents to observe and <br />enjoy waterfowl resources; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the interest of citizens to preserve and <br />protect wildlife for the enjoyment of future generations; and <br />WHEREAS, the value of the Cuyahoga Valley National <br />Recreation Area as a complete recreational resource would be <br />significantly enhanced for the development of approximately three <br />thousand (3,000) acres of marsh and wetlands for the purpose of <br />providing a natural habitat for wildlife to thrive; and <br />WHEREAS, the development of new and the expansion of <br />existing wetland areas will add greatly to the filtration and purifi- <br />cation of waters entering the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie; as well as <br />helping to alleviate the threat of flooding in populated areas <br />adjacent to the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area; now, <br />theref ore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD V ILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, <br />Ohio, on behalf of themselves and the residents of the municipality, <br />hereby officially voice their support to the Cuyahoga Valley Chapter <br />of the Ohio Waterfowl Association and the League of Ohio Sportsmen in <br />their efforts to establish a Wetland Wildlife Reserve in the Cuyahoga <br />Valley National Recreation Area. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to <br />forward a copy of this Resolution to President Ronald Reagan, <br />Secretary of the Interior Donald P. Hodel, Governor Richard F. <br />Celeste, United States Senators John Glenn and Howard Metzenbaum, <br />Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar, Congressman Louis Stokes, State Senator <br />Lee I. Fisher and to State Representative Ronald Suster. <br />WHEREAS, <br />
