RESOLUTION N0. 78-68 • INTRODUCED BY: Mr. Busa AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION OPPOSING A RATE INCREASE REQUEST FILED BY THE CLEVELAND ELECTRIC ILLUMINATING COMPANY WITH THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION OF OHIO WHEREAS, Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company has filed an application for a rate increase with the State of Ohio Public Utilities Commission; and WHEREAS, CET's earnings have been consistently increas- ing and CET has been the beneficiary of several Federal tax reductions and credits, particularly with regard to investment credits; and WHEREAS, there seems to be no need for this rate increase, which would place an additional burden on the taxpayers and accelerate the inflation spiral in the State of Ohio; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF MAYFIELD, OH2O, THAT: Section 1. The Village of Mayfield urges the Public Utili- ties Commission of Ohio to reject the application of Cleveland Electric Illum3natinq Company for electric rate increases for the reasons stated here3n. . Section 2. The Clerk is authorized, empowered and directed to forward copies of this Resolution to the Governor of Ohio, the Governor-elect, the Clerk of the Ohio House of Representatives, the Clerk of the Ohio Senate, to interested representatives and senators in the Ohio General Assembly and to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Section 3. This is an emerqency Resolution immediately necessary for the preservation of the welfare,health and safety of the residents of the Village of Mayfield in that the Public Utilities Commission ss now considering th'rs rate increase. It shall therefore take effect immediately upon passage by the affirmative vote of not less than five (53 members elected to Council and approval by the Mayor or otherwise at the earliest time allowed by law.
