ORDINANCE NO. 79-23
INTRODUCED BY: Council as a Whole
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A 24-HOUR
IN-STATION DISPATCHING UNIT WITHIN
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE.
WHEREAS, the Police Department of Mayfield Village is
currently without the services of an in-station dispatcher on week-
days from 12:00 midnight until 8:00 A.M. and on weekends from
Friday 12:00 midnight until Monday at 8:00 A.M.; and
WHEREAS, during those hours without an in-station
dispatcher the Police Department must rely on the services of an
out-of-station dispatching system which provides only a one-way
communication system for those officers on duty; and
WHEREAS, the use o£ a one-way dispatchinq system presents
a substantial risk o£ harm to police officers by reducinq their
ability to communicate with their fellow officers in calls for
assistance; and
WHEREAS, Mayfield Village, because of its continued growth
in both population and general commercial activity, requires expanded
capabilities for providing adequate law enforcement and protection for
its residents as well as its police officers;and
WHEREAS, the establishment of 24-hour in-station dispatching
would greatly enhance the opportunity for improving the effectiveness
of the Police Department by providing continuous and reliable two-
way dispatching capabilities; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
Section 1. The Mayor is hereby authorized and directed
to establish a 24-hour in-station dispatching unit within the P.olice
Department o£ the municipality.
Section 2. The Mayor is further authorized and directed
to hire the services of the following personnel, at the rate of pay
specified, to compose the dispatching unit:
(a) Two full-time dispatchers to be paid at the rate
designated for Class B Dispatchers in accordance with the pay
scale of the municipality;
(b) Two part-time dispatchers to be paid an hourly rate
computed on the rate of pay for Class B Full-time Dispatchers
divided by 2,080.
