ORDINANCE N0. 74-23 <br />Introduced by: Mr. Bennett <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 11.3 OF ORDINANCE N0. 788, <br />AS AMENDED, BEING THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE, BY AMENDING <br />REQUIREh1ENTS FOR EMERGENCY LIGHTING IN EXIT-LdAYS AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF TAE VILLAGE OE MAYFIELD, COUNTY OF <br />CUYAHOGA, STATE OF OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. Section 11.3 of Ordinance No. 788, entiY'9ed: "Fire Prevention <br />Code", establishing emergency lighting requirements for exit-ways, as amended <br />by Ordinance numbers 831, 895, and 70-57, is hereby amended by amending <br />Section 11.3 which shall read as follows: <br />Section 11.3: Lighting of Exit Ways; Emergency Lighting <br />Required stairways, hallways, and other means of egress, including <br />exterior open spaces to or through which exit ways lead, shall be <br />kept adequately lighted at all times that the building served thereby <br />is occupied. <br />Each room, hall, or auditorium having a capacity of fifty (50) per- <br />sons, and each place of business open to the public after 6:00 p.m. <br />and, each interior room where people work without natural light and, <br />each apartment house shall be provided with lights meeting the pro- <br />visions of Section 11.2 and so located and supplied with current as <br />to provide, with one service interrupted, emergency illumination <br />without appreciable delay. Such installation may consist of any <br />one of the following: <br />(1) An emergency lighting system, independent of the general <br />lighting system with provision for automatically transferring, <br />by means of devices approved for the purpose, the emergency <br />system from a defective supply to another supply. <br />(2) Two or more separate and complete systems with independent <br />current supply, each providing emergency lighting. Unless <br />both systems are kept lighted, means shall be provided for <br />automatically lighting each system upon failure of the other. <br />(3) Any other installation approved as adequate for the purpose of <br />this section in the manner required by this code. <br />(4) In buildings that are required to have a fire alarm system, <br />the fire alarm system must be supplied with emergency power <br />so that it will function normally in the event of a primary <br />power failure.
