ORDINANCE No. 968 <br />By Mr. Shaw <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMIND SECTION 1(e) OF ORDINANCE N0, 940 <br />PERTAINING TO SIGNS AND UNIFORMITY.OF SIGNS <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THFs ViLLAGE OF MAYFIII.D, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, STATE <br />OF OHIO,_THAT: <br />Sec, 1. Existing Section 1(e) of Qrdinance No. 940, entitled; "An <br />Ordinance Amending Chapter 43 of Section 1 of Ordinance No. 726, Known as the <br />Regional Building Code, by Adding Paragraph 1643.58 Imposing Requirements for <br />Outdoor Signs in Commercial Districts, and Repealing.Certain Paragraphs in Said <br />Chapter 43", is hereby amendpd to read, as follows: <br />("e.) (Height and Uniformity of Signs). No wall sign shall contain <br />any letters more than 2" in eig . e backboard facing on any <br />wall sign shall not extend more than 6" above the lettering on the <br />sign and shall not extend more than 611,below said lettering. Any <br />variance in the height of the wall sign or its lettering or its <br />backboard facing must be approved both by the Board of Zoning Appeals <br />and the Architectural Board upon a finding that such variance will <br />be:,in harmony with the general purpose and intent of this ordinance <br />so that the public health, safety and general welfare may be secured <br />and substantial justice done, without causing any damage to the owner <br />of any other property. Where there are two or more stores in a single <br />building, the signs on such stores shall be of uttiform height, both <br />as to lettering and the backboard Eacing ( but not more than is <br />permitted by the foregoing sentences in Section 1(e) of Ordinance <br />No. 940 as amended) and shall be of uniform or harmonious design, <br />to be approved by the Architectural Board, so that the combination <br />of signs will not detract from property values in the neighborhood <br />nor cause confusion ttor create slum conditions." <br />Sec. 2. All other provisions of said Ordinance No, 940 shall remain in <br />full force and effect. <br />Sec. 3, This ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety <br />and welfare of the Village of Mayfield ahd its inhabitants, so that signs <br />proposed to be erected shall be in conEormity with high standards necessary to <br />promote the welfare of the community, and this ordinance shall take effect and <br />be in foree immediately upon the date of its passage. <br /> <br />Passed this 19th day of September, 1966.
