INTRODUCED BY: Mayor-Elect Bodnar and Council as a Whole
NO. 2015-19
A RESOLUTION THANKING MAYFIELD VILLAGE MAYOR BRUCE G. RINKEIt
FOR 28 YEAYtS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO MAYFIELD VILLAGE
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1993, Bruce G. Rinker was sworn into office as the Mayor of Mayfield Village after being elected
to Mayfield Village Council in 1987 and serving as Counci] President beginning in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Rinker has served the community of Mayfield Village with exceptional dedication for 28 years; and
WHEREAS, Mayfield Village and its residents have clearly benefitted and prospered as a result of Mayor Rinker's leadership.
While the road, sidewalk, culvert and sanitary sewer conversion projects completed are too voluminous to name, there are numerous
highlights. that illustrate just how Mayor Rinker's vision and tenacity has shaped Mayfield Village:
• The construction or renovation of most of the Village's public facilities, including a new Fire Station in 1996, the purchase of
the United Methodist Church and its conversion into the current Civic Center in 2005, and construction of a new Police Station
in 2010. As Mayor Rinker takes his leave, the construction of a new Community Room is underway with an anticipated grand
opening in August 2016;
• The acyuisition of over 150 acres of land dedicated to residential use, high-end commercial use and public parkland. Thc
purchase of property--part and parcel--has dramatically increased the Village's green and open spaces and has also provided
? residents with top-notch park and recreational facilities, including an outdoor poo1, two playgrounds, three softball fields, two
soccer fields and a 25-acre wetlands park;
• The continued development of the Greenway Corridor that now includes the Mayfield Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public
Library, The Grove Amphitheatre and the Greenway Trail, connecting neighborhoods to the Village's recreational hub;
• The creation of a Parks and Recreation Department in 1999 that has grown to offer over 150 programs in 2015;
• The development of Progressive Insurance's first and second campuses and the widening of SOM Center Road (complete with
medians, even if narrower than he would have liked);
• The rejuvenation of Beta Park as a County Innovation Zone and creation of the Mayfield Village fiber optic network. Overall,
Mayfield Village is home to over 130 businesses with over 8,000 employees; and
WHEREAS, under Mayor Rinker's watch, Mayfield Village has continued to stay small and think big. The Village's
population has remained virtually unchanged, property values have increased, and general fund revenues have grown from $3.7 million
in 1993 to a projected $18.5 million in 2015.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCiL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
Mayor Bruce G. Rinker be and is hereby recognized and congratulated for 28 years of dedicated and
exceptional service to Maytield Village. On behalf of residents, business owners, department heads and
staff, we wish him many years of health and happiness. Although he has officially retired from work in
the Village, we hope that he will continue to live here, enjoy the proverbial fruits of his labor, and
