_a L/ ~ Dear Mayors and Trustees, We've received inquiries on the County's efforts to protect voting rights, so I'm contacting all mayors to share this information... Quick Background: As you may know, state officials have taken a number of measures recently to restrict citizens' ability to vote. These restrictions include eliminating early voting on Sundays, reducing the time period for early voting, eliminating Golden Week, banning boards of elections from automatically sending out applications for voting by mail, and changing the rules on provisional ballots. We are doing everything in our capacity at the County to counteract these actions and protect our citizens' constitutional right to vote. That is why Executive FitzGerald introduced the Cuyahoga County Voting Rights Law. This legislation would formalize a County program to assist voter registration and to enable the County to mail applications to all registered voters to request their ballots. Consider. 1} Join the Press Conference: On Tuesday, March 11, at 4:30 p.m. Executive FitzGerald will hold a press conference outside the County Council Chambers in the Justice Center, located at 1200 Ontario Street in Cleveland, prior to County Councils first hearing on the Cuyahoga County Voting Rights Law. This Resolution of Support indicates community disapproval of the states action to restrict citizens access to the ballot and urges them to repeal these restrictions and instead focus on working to increase citizens voting access. We ask that you please consider introducing this Resolution to your local legislative body and proactively join our efforts. A mode! Resolution of Support is attached.
