Specific Fields of Interest? Career Choices and Job Opporiunities of the Future
Mission Statement -
The creation of an experiential, student-driven organization that provides a platform, environment and medium for the
discovery and exploration of new developments in science, technology, communications, business, economics, art,
philosophy, and math, as relating to specific fields of interest, cazeer choices and job oppominities of the future. Student-
members will experiment with ownership, interactive research and modeling of innovative concepts.
The Pi Society is open to all middle and high school students in the Mayfield School District with creative ideas,
profound questions, vital interests, a passion for laiowledge or simply an original thought, and an unquestionable desire to
join, shall. This program proposes a comprehensive yet flexible agenda allowing for the specific selection of content and
procedures by student-members. The project's advisors and facilitators, thought of as "guides", recommend four basic
interlocking components:
1) At The Zone (ak.a. hangout, think tank, clubhouse) -- a member maintained, adult supervised work and play space
where students aze encouraged to explore the reseazch and discovery of existing laiowledge, information, as well as,
original ideas. The primary purpose of this "Zone" would be to provide an environxnent in which students could identify
common interests and cultivate a passion for learning above and beyond the classroom atmosphere.
2) On Road Trips -- Organized field trips to destinations suggested and ultimately approved by adult facilitators, but
researched and selected by the student members themselves. These destinations include: universities, hospitals, reseazch
facilities, businesses, special events, etc.;
3) Guest Presenters & Suecial Events -- Interesting and laiowledgeable people/facilitators from a variety of fields
would be invited to address the organization, providing lectures, presentations, experiments and/or demonstrations. In
addition, special events would be planned by the students and advisors that would bring educational and social concepts
together at local area facilities;
4) In Class -- an academic "feeder" program for enhancing current curriculum in science, math, art and other
disciplines. Eventually a mechanism whereby existing classroom lmowledge could influence and be influenced by the
research and findings of this group.
