RESOLITTION NO. 2003-02 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION <br />SUPPORTING A NEW CONVENTION CENTER <br />IN DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND <br />WHEREAS, Economic Developmerrt is a regional issue and the economic well being of all <br />communities in and around C.iyahoga County is inexorably linked to the economic well being of the City of <br />Cleveland; and <br />WHEREAS, tourism and convention business is an integra1 component ofthe economic developmerrt <br />strategies of Cleveland and linked to other recetrt economic development efforts such as the Rack and Roll Hall <br />of Fame, The Crreat Lakes Science Museum, the Gateway Development, Cleveland Browns Stadium, Blossom <br />Mtasic CeYrter, Severanee Hall; the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Botatucal Society of Cleveland, The <br />Cleveiand Museum of ivaturai History and Playhouse Square; and <br />VI-HREAS, money spent by tomsts and convention visitors in and. around. Cleveland.benefits from a <br />sigtuficant rnultiplier effact 1iiat further boosts the eeonomy of the region; and <br />Vd3EREAS, A viable converrtion center is critical to competing with cities of similaz size; the cities <br />with which Cleveland competes for convention visitors and tourists ha.ve recognized the need to develop and <br />mairitairi state-of-the-art corivenhon ceriters; arifl <br />WHEREAS, the City of Cleveland's current converrtion cerrter is more than 80 years old, has nqt.been <br />updated in 20 years and in rts present state places Cleveland at a competitive disadvantage with tilase middle-tier <br />cities-competing for tourists and conveirtions; and <br />WHEREAS,,the Village of Maytield wishes to join the City of Cleveland anci re0onal officials in <br />smport oftheireffarts to plan forthe consfcuction ofanew, stata-of-ffie?art canvetrtion centerm downtown <br />Cf&eland <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VII;LAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTiON I. The Mau?tor a and new conve Counciiirtion'ofthe Villae ofMa?eld <br />efforts to plan, design and constr center that will reflect the shere? Su?pOrt t} ie region's <br />pirit of a rejuvenated <br />Metropohtan Cleveland <br />SECTION 2. The Mayor and Council of the Village of Ma.yfield urge all citizens and <br />businesses in Cuyahoga County to support efforts by City, County, Regional and State <br />officials to- construct a. new convention center. <br />SECTION 3. A copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Cuyahoga Count.y. <br />Commissioners and the Mayors of the Municipalities of Cuyahoga Gounty' and 'State <br />Representa.tives.
