RESOLUTION NO. 2004-07 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole. <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CRITICAL <br />NATURE OF OUR LOCAL LIBRARY BRANCH AND <br />SUPPORTING CUYAHOGA COUNTY LIBRARY ISSUE 23 <br />ON THE MARCH 2004 BALLOT <br />WHEREAS, THE Village of Mayfield recognizes the unique and vital services provided <br />by Cuyahoga County Public Library to the people of all ages living in Mayfield Village, Ohio; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Library currently has a 1.4 mill levy that provides over half of the <br />Cuyahoga County Public Library operating budget, and this levy will expire on December 31, <br />2004; and <br />WHEREAS, State funding for the library has been significantly reduced; and <br />WHEREAS, the Library has had to cut book purchases, services, staffing and hours <br />because of budget shortfalls, and, without an increase in revenues, can no longer provide the <br />level of service our community desires; and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 23, a 1.4 mill replacement and .6 mill increase, is needed to maintain <br />the quality of Cuyahoga County Public Library and keep it on the Top Ten list of the nation's <br />libraries; and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 23 will have a direct impact on many Mayfield Village children, <br />families and senior citizens who need library services <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Village of Mayfield hereby authorizes and supports Issue 23 and urges the <br />citizens of our Village to vote for Issue 23 in order that the information, educational, professional <br />and recreational needs of the community be met, and to ensure that the delivery of quality library <br />service will continue. <br />SECTION 2. The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of the Council relating to <br />the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such formal action, took place in <br />meetings open to the public in compliance with all statutory requirements including the <br />requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
