7. Entry Permit S sY tem <br />The Milap written procedures for preparing and issuing permits for entry into <br />permit required confined spaces. <br />8. Hazardous Atmosphere <br />An atmosphere which exposes employees to a risk of death, incapacitation, <br />injury or acute illness, such as: <br />a. A flammable gas, vapor or mist in excess of IO% of its L.E.L. (Lower <br />Explosive Level). <br />b. An airborne combustible dust at a concentration that meets or exceeds its <br />L.E.L. N4TE: This concentration may be approximated as a condition in <br />which the dust obscures vision at a distance of five (5) feet (1.5211) or less. <br />c. An atmospheric oxygen concentration in the confined space below 19.5 percent or above 23.5 percent. d. An atmospheric concentration of any substance for which a permissible <br />- exposure limit is published in Subpart 2 of 29 CRF Pt 1910 and couId result <br />in employee being exposed above the P.E.L. <br />e. Any :atmospheric condition recognized as immediately dangerous to life or <br />health. <br />9. Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) <br />a. Any condition which poses an immediate threat of loss of life, may cause <br />irreversibie severe health effects or could impair escape from the permit <br />space. . <br />10. Immediatelv Severe Health Effects <br />a. Any acute clinical sign(s) of a serious exposure related reaction manifested <br />within 72 hours after exposure. <br />11. Non-Permit Confined Space <br />a. A confined space that does not contain, or with respect to, atmospheric <br />hazards have the potential to contain, any hazard capab(e of causing death or <br />serious physical hann. <br />8.
