(^ ~ <br />ORDINANCE NO. 93- 16 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING SECTION 331.10 OF THE <br />CODIFIED ORDINANCES RELATIVE TO <br />LEFT HAND TURNING LANES <br />WHEREAS, the Village has numerous left hand turning <br />situations, particularly on Wilson Mills, where there are two-way <br />turning lanes that from time to time are misused by motor vehicles, <br />causing a potentiality for traffic accidents; and <br />WHEREAS, the following amendment to Section 331.10 of the <br />Codified Ordinances is designed to address the misuse of left hand <br />turning lanes in the situations described, and to protect the <br />health, safety and welfare of those involved in vehicular traffic <br />through the Village of Mayfield. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That Section 331.10 of the Codified Ordinances is <br />hereby and herein amended to include a new subsection (e) which <br />shall read as follows: <br />331.10 TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS. <br />The driver of a vehicle intending to turn at an <br />intersection shall be governed by the following rules: <br />(e) When the center lane of three or five lane roadways <br />is reserved as a left turning lane for traffic <br />going in both directions, such turning lane shall <br />not be entered except for making left turns, except <br />to pass other vehicular traffic in the event of an <br />emergency or when directed by a police officer. <br />Entry into such lanes for left turns shall not be <br />made more than two hundred feet from the point of <br />turning, unless such two hundred foot entry way is <br />intersected by a street intersecting from the left <br />side, or unless the pavement markings allow for a <br />greater distance. <br />SECTION 2. The Council finds and determines that all formal <br />actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this Ordinance <br />have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in <br />such formal action, took place in meetings open .to the public, in <br />compliance with all statutory requirements including the <br />requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />
