H. Sick Leave <br />1. All permanent full-time employees shall be entitled for each <br />complete eighty (80) hours of service to sick leave of four and six-tenths <br />(4-6/10) hours with pay, except in the Fire Department where they shall earn <br />fifteen (15) sick leave tours (1 tour = 24 hours) per year. Employees may <br />use sick leave with the approval of their department heads for absence due to <br />illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease and illness in the immediate <br />family. The appointing authority of each appointing unit shall require an <br />employee to furnish a satisfactory written signed statement to justify the <br />use of sick leave. If absence due to illness exceeds three (3) days, or <br />three (3) tours in the case of fire fighters, a statement certifying the <br />nature of the illness from a licensed physician shall be required to justify <br />the use of sick leave. Falsification of either a written statement or a <br />physician's certificate shall be grounds for disciplinary action including <br />dismissal. No sick leave may be granted upon or after retirement or <br />termination of employment. <br />2. Any permanent full-time employee who, at the end of their first full <br />calendar year of service to Mayfield Village, has an accumulation of forty- <br />five (45) days, or tours in the case of fire fighters, unused sick leave and <br />who, during the same calendar year, has not used any of the sick days earned <br />during that year shall be compensated at the end of the calendar year the <br />equivalent of five (5) days, or five (5) tours in the case of fire fighters, <br />pay without having any days deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. <br />Sick leave accumulation lawfully transferred from prior public employees <br />shall be included for purposes of this section. If under the foregoing <br />circumstances, the employee has used one (1) earned sick day, or tour, during <br />the calendar year, then said employee shall be compensated at the end of the <br />year for four (4) days, or tours, pay without having any of said days <br />deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. If, under the foregoing <br />circumstances, the employee has used two (2) earned sick days, or tours, <br />during the calendar year, then said employee shall be compensated at the end <br />of the year for three (3) days, or tours, pay without having any of said days <br />deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. If, under the foregoing <br />circumstances, the employee has used four (4) earned sick days, our tours, <br />during the calendar year, then said employee shall be compensated at the end <br />of the year for one (1) day, or tour, pay without having any of said days <br />deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. <br />3. Upon retirement, all full-time employees shall be entitled to <br />receive credit and payment for accumulated but unused sick leave not to <br />exceed two hundred forty (240) hours, provided that they have been employed <br />by the Village for ten (10) years or more. For purposes of this Section, an <br />employee shall be considered to have retired when such employee takes action <br />that is inconsistent with any reasonable intent to continue employment with <br />the Municipality. <br />4. (a) If a full-time employee is scheduled to work on a holiday <br />enumerated in Section 6(a), and cannot work due to illness, that day shall be <br />considered a holiday day off and shall not be counted or compensated as a <br />sick day. <br />(b) "Hours of service" as used in this section, includes overtime, <br />vacations, holidays, sick leave and all other approved and paid leaves of <br />11 <br />
