RESOLUTION NO. 93- 06 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION <br />PROCLAIMING APRIL AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH <br />IN HAYFIELD VILLAGE <br />WHEREAS, the Greater Cleveland communities have united to <br />present a collaborative effort to support April as National Fair <br />Housing Month; and <br />WHEREAS, recent studies have documented the continued <br />incidence of discrimination in this county's housing market and the <br />existence of segregated communities and school districts; and <br />WHEREAS, there exist in this county areas which are <br />integrating successfully and in need of support to assure their <br />continued existence as racially diverse communities; and <br />WHEREAS, on March 12, 1989, the 1988 Fair Housing Amendments <br />Act became effective and added two new protected classes, the <br />familial status and the handicapped. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />~ SECTION 1. That this Council and Administration hereby <br />declares April as Fair Housing Month in the Village of Mayfield. <br />SECTION 2. That it is the goal of this government to <br />eliminate housing discrimination and assure the rights of every <br />citizen to buy, rent or sell housing without regard to race, sex, <br />religion, national origin or handicap, as guaranteed by Title VIII <br />of- the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended, and the laws of the <br />State of Ohio . <br />March 12, 1989. <br />SECTION 3. That the Mayor and Council urges every local <br />government to work cooperatively in affirmatively furthering fair <br />housing as called for by the Housing and Community Development Act <br />of 1974, and the 1988 Fair Housing Amendments Act as passed on <br />SECTION 4. That every agency of local government should lend <br />full support to the prosecution of any acts of racial intimidation, <br />harassment or violence; and to the affirmation of the civil rights <br />of every homeseeker and resident of Cuyahoga County. <br />SECTION 5.
