RESOLUTION NO. 93- 19 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION <br />ENDORSING THE 1.4 MIL LEVY ON THE NOVEMBER <br />BALLOT WHICH WILL FUND PUBLIC SAFETY, CRIMINAL <br />JUSTICE AND JUVENILE JUSTICE PROGRAMS <br />WHEREAS, in August, the Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners <br />voted unanimously to place a 1.4 mil levy on the ballot this November <br />(Issue 2) to fund public safety, criminal justice and juvenile justice <br />programs; and <br />WHEREAS, criminal justice costs are the fastest growing component <br />of the County's budget, fueled by the dramatic increase in crime over <br />the last decade; and <br />WHEREAS, the resulting increase in court costs and the demand for <br />new jail space are causing havoc on our overall County budget; and <br />WHEREAS, if this levy is passed, the owner of an $80,000.00 home <br />will pay an additional Thirty Four Dollars per year, less than Seventy <br />Five Cents per week for a limited five year period; and <br />WHEREAS, the adoption of this levy will generate an additional <br />Twenty Nine Million Dollars annually for the operation of a new jail, <br />currently under construction, and a new juvenile detention facility, as <br />well as a new minimum security facility for non violent offenders. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, <br />OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That the Mayor and Council on behalf of the citizens <br />and businesses in the Village of Mayfield do hereby and herein endorse <br />and support the adoption of Issue 2 on the November ballot. <br />SECTION 2.
