RESOLUTION NO. 2006- 20 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION <br />IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF CLEVELAND'S RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT <br />OF ISSUE #18 TO RAISE A PROJECTED $20-25 MILLION DOLLARS TO BE <br />USED BY CUYAHOGA COUNTY FOR ARTS AND CULTURAL GRANTS <br />EXCLUSIVELY. <br />WHEREAS, on August 9, 2006 the City of Cleveland adopted a resolution <br />in support of a ballot issue to be voted on at the November 7, 2006 election that <br />will put in place an excise tax on tobacco; and <br />WHEREAS, the revenues collected from the excise tax will produce a <br />dedicated public sector arts and cultural funding source to preserve and expand <br />arts and culture assets in the County ;and <br />WHEREAS, the Village of Mayfield finds it in the best interest of its <br />residents to support the City of Cleveland's Resolution in support of Issue #18. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Village of Mayfield and its Council recommend and <br />support the Cleveland Resolution in Support of Issue #18 to raise a projected $20- <br />25 million dollars to be used by Cuyahoga County for arts and cultural grants <br />exclusively, providing a funding source essential for sustaining and expanding the <br />public good that comes from healthy and vibrant arts and cultural assets. <br />SECTION 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to transmit certified <br />copies of this resolution to County Commissioners Dimora, Hagan, and Jones. <br />SECTION 3. The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of the <br />Council relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at open <br />meetings of this Council; and that deliberations of this Council and of its <br />committees, resulting in such formal action, took place in meetings open to the <br />public in compliance with all statutory requirements including the requirements of <br />Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />SECTION 4. This Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the health, safety and <br />welfare of the residents of Mayfield Village. It shall, therefore, take effect <br />
