RESOLUTION 2005-04
INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Bruce G. Rinker and Council as a Whole
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF
PROTECTING SOCIAL SECURITY
WHEREAS, For 70 years, Social Security has been America's most important
economic program for individuals and families. Through depressions, wars, government
shutdowns, and blizzards, benefit checks have arrived on time and in full, and today, go
to more than 40 million people; and
WHEREAS, Social Security is the main retirement income against poverty for
most retirees, since less than one-third of retirees receive private pensions; and
WHEREAS, Social Security is the main income for over 7 million disabled
workers and their dependants and 7 million survivors of deceased workers; and
WHEREAS, Social Security is the main income for retired women and minority
workers because of unequal job realities; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUIITCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
Section 1. That Congress be urged to pursue, as it always has, a bi-partisan effort to
make modest adjustments to guarantee full benefits for all future generations; and
Section 2. That this organization opposes all privatization schemes which would drain
and destroy Social Security; and
Section 3. That we urge our citizens to participate in activities that seek to prevent the
privatization and weakening of Social Security.
RESOLUTION ADOPTED: 2005
WILLIAM BUCKHOLTZ, COUNCIL PRESIDENT
BRUCE G. RINKER, MAYOR
DONNA J. ROMAN, CLERK OF COUNCIL
APPROVED AS TO FORM:
JOSEPH W. DIEMERT, DIRECTOR OF LAW
