RESOLUTION NO. 2005-23
INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole
AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION
IN SUPPORT OF ISSUE 6 PROPOSING A 1.2 MIL
REPLACEMENT LEVY FOR TRI-C
WHEREAS, the voters of Cuyahoga County in 1996 approved a 1.2 mil
levy to fund services and programs provided by Tri-C; and
WHEREAS, the tax levy is set to expire in 2006; and
WHEREAS, the citizens for Cuyahoga Community College have submitted
for the November 8, 2005 ballot, a 1.2 mil replacement levy for a nine (9) year
period of time in order to continue funding of the services and programs provided
by Tri-C; and
WHEREAS, this replacement levy will cost an additional $0.78 cents a
month for each $100,000 in home valuation. This increase will allow Tri-C to
keep the region's workforce up-to-date with quality training, provide specialized
training for local business, industry and safety forces, and keep tuition affordable
for the majority of County residents; and
WHEREAS, since enrollment at Tri-C has grown 25% in the past few
years, from a little over 20,000 in the year 2000 to a little over 25,000 this year,
Issue 6 will allow the college to serve increasing numbers of students and
continue to offer the quality education which has enabled Tri-C to become known
as the place where futures begin and residents can greatly improve their
personal and professional lives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD
VILLAGE, OHIO THAT:
SECTION 1. The Mayor and Council hereby and herein endorse the
proposed 1.2 mil replacement levy for Tri-C which will appear as Issue 6 on the
November 8, 2005 ballot.
