BY: Mayor R <br />and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION <br />INFORMING THE O~iIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION <br />THAT THE VILLAGE OF HAYFIELD OFFICIALLY OBJECTS <br />TO THE INCREASE OF THE SPEED LIMIT ON I-271 FROM <br />55 TO 65 M.P.H. <br />WHEREAS, Substitute House Bill 565 gives local officials and <br />the Ohio Department of Tlransportation one hundred twenty days to <br />conduct appropriate geometric and traffic characteristic studies to <br />evaluate the existing freeway speed limits; and <br />WHEREAS, unless the local municipality's legislative body <br />provides ODOT with a resolution opposing an increase in the speed <br />limit upon the interstate highway that is located in that <br />municipality along with a traffic study justifying maintaining the <br />55 m.p.h. speed limit within one hundred twenty days, the speed <br />limit. on I-271 in the ';Village of Mayfield will automatically <br />increase to 65 m.p.h.; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor a!nd Council of the Village of Mayfield wish <br />to officially oppose the 'increase of the speed limit from 55 to 65 <br />m.p.h. and authorize they Police Chief to, prepare a traffic study <br />justifying this opposition; and <br />WHEREAS, the Village Council, the Mayor, and the Chief of <br />Police believe that this resolution is in the best interest of the <br />health, safety and welfa~e of all Village residents. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That tihe Mayor and Council of the Village of <br />Mayfield officially oppose any increase 'in the present 55 m.p.h. <br />speed limit on I-271, located in the Village of Mayfield and <br />further, strongly urges 'the Ohio Department of Transportation to <br />maintain the present 55 m.p.h. speed limit. <br />SECTION 2. That the Chief of Police is authorized and <br />directed to conduct a traffic study with regards to maintaining the <br />55 m.p.h. speed limit, and, thereafter, to forward that study to <br />ODOT within a timely fashion. <br />SECTION 3. That the Clerk of <br />directed to forward a certified copy of <br />Department of Transportation District <br />22, 1996. <br />Council is authorized and <br />this resolution to the Ohio <br />12 Office, on or before May <br />SECTION 4. The Council finds and determines that all formal <br />actions of the Council relating to the adoption of this Resolution <br />have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in <br />i <br />
