RESOLUTION 97-07 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Bruce G. Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION DECLARING MAY 25, 1997 <br />AS "BRIAN KHOURY DAY" <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village, along with the Mayfield High School family was saddened <br />this past January 14 by the untimely death of one of the senior students, Brian Khoury, a student <br />diagnosed early in life with Muscular Dystrophy. Brian was a distinguished scholar, was active in <br />extra-curricular programs, and held in the highest esteem by the members of his class; and <br />WHEREAS, we recognize Brian's bravery and perseverance in his quest to lead an active <br />high school life despite his disability; and <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village, along with the Mayfield School System and the Mayfield <br />High School Class of 1997, resolves to preserve forever the member of the life and spirit of Brian <br />Khoury; and <br />WHEREAS, a scholarship fund has been established in Brian Khoury's name to reward <br />future high school graduates for their academic achievement and personal perseverance; and <br />WHEREAS, Muscular Dystrophy continues to plague this community's citizens, young <br />and old, with no cure or treatment yet discovered; but by establishing this scholarship fund in <br />Brian's name, we hope to show how his spirit has prevailed. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio on behalf of themselves and <br />the residents of the Municipality hereby declare May 25, 1997 "Brian Khoury Day." <br />Section 2. The Council endorses the activities of Mayfield High School and the Mayfield <br />Senior Class in their efforts towards preserving Brian's memory and providing towards an <br />end to the plague of muscular dystrophy. <br />Section 3. The Council hereby allocates the sum of $500 dollars to be donated to the <br />Brian Khoury Scholarship Fund of Mayfield High School. <br />Section 4. The Council call upon all businesses, organizations, and societies in the <br />Mayfield School System to contribute towards the efforts in this matter of Mayfield High <br />School and the Mayfield Senior Class. <br />This resolution shall become effective upon its adoption by Council and the signature of the <br />Mayor, or as ma.y otherwise be provided by law.
