4/2/90 <br />RESOLUTION N0. 90- 25 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION <br />DESIGNATING APRIL 22, 1990 <br />AS EARTH DAY <br />WHEREAS, almost twenty (20) years ago, more than twenty million Americans <br />joined together on Earth Day in a demonstration of concern for the environment, <br />and their collective action helped lead to the passage of sweeping new laws to <br />protect our air, water and land; and <br />WHEREAS, in the nineteen (19) years since the first Earth Day, despite <br />environmental improvements, the environmental health of the planet is <br />increasingly endangered, threatened by Global Climate Change, Ozone Depletion, <br />Tropical Deforestation, Ocean Pollution, Hazardous Waste, Nuclear Waste, Toxic <br />Pesticides and Desertification, requiring action by all sectors of society; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a national and international call to action <br />for all citizens to join in a global effort to save the planet; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate citizens <br />concerning the importance of acting in an environmentally sensitive fashion by <br />recycling, conserving energy and water, promoting alternative, renewable <br />energy sources, encouraging sustainable, organic agricultural methods, using <br />efficient transportation, buying and using only those products least harmful <br />to the environment, adopting more ecologically sound lifestyles, doing <br />business only with those companies that are environmentally sensitive and <br />responsible, and supporting legislation that will help protect the environment <br />and voting for candidates who demonstrate an abiding concern for the <br />environment; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Council of Mayfield Village supports the goals of Earth <br />Day and designates and proclaims April 22, 1990 as Earth Day. That day shall <br />be set aside for public activities promoting preservation of the local and <br />global environment and launching the "Decade of the Environment." <br />SECTION 2. The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of <br />this Council relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at <br />open meetings of this Council; and that deliberations of this Council and of <br />its committees, resulting in such formal action, took place in meetings open <br />to the public, .in compliance with all statutory requirements including the <br />requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />
