4/16/90 <br />RESOLUTION N0. 90-26 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen and Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION <br />URGING THE CONGRESS OF THE <br />UNITED STATES TO EXERCISE THEIR POWERS <br />TO SAVE THE 107TH ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT <br />OF THE NATIONAL GUARD <br />WHEREAS, the Army National Guard has been used for emergency response in <br />cases of natural, civil or human disasters or disturbances, and; <br />WHEREAS, the 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment has a long and enviable <br />history and heritage and has served Northeastern Ohio since 1877, and; <br />WHEREAS, the 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment has rendered assistance to <br />federal, state and local governmental agencies including law enforcement <br />agencies, and; <br />WHEREAS, in the budget submitted by the Department of Defense, personnel <br />reduction by 1994 in the National Guard would deactivate the 107th Armored <br />Cavalry Regiment, and; <br />WHEREAS, such reduction would have a total personnel impact in the amount <br />of Twenty-One Million Dollars ($21,000,000.00) on an annual basis, and; <br />WHEREAS, vital emergency services to Northeast Ohio would be lost as a <br />result of such personnel reduction, now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village urge the Congress <br />of the United States to exercise their powers to save the 107th Armored <br />Cavalry Regiment of the National Guard in order to maintain vital emergency <br />services to the cities of Northeast Ohio. <br />SECTION 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to <br />forward a duplicate copy of this Resolution to the following named: Secretary <br />Richard Cheney, Department of Defense, Unites States Senators John Glenn and <br />Howard Metzenbaum, United States Representatives Edward F. Feighan, Mary Rose <br />Oakar and Louis Stokes; and the local newspaper editors currently serving the <br />Northeast Ohio area. <br />
