,/ ..~ <br />RESOLUTION NO. 91=1 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen and Council as a Whole <br />_RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES <br />AND THE ARMED FORCES COALITION IN THE WAR AGAINST IRAO <br />~_. <br />WHEREAS, the invasion and occupation of Kuwait by the forces <br />under the direction of Saddam Hussein of Iraq constitute <br />unilateral acts of aggression which. are repugnant to the laws of <br />nations and humanity, such that it has become imperative for other <br />nations of the world to respond in a manner effectively reversing <br />such aggression; <br />WHEREAS, acting in concert, many nations have accordingly <br />imposed economic and other sanctions upon Iraq, intended to convey <br />to Saddam Hussein and his government that military imposition of <br />his ambiguous claims of sovereignty over a purportedly historical <br />province of Iraq is unacceptable; <br />WHEREAS, in the face of such allied sentiment, further <br />expressed in numerous Resolutions of the United Nations condemning <br />his aggression, Saddam Hussein has cynically amended his initial <br />claim of exercising Iraqi sovereignty over Kuwait and now asserts <br />he leads a Pan-Arabic imperative to oppose so-called western <br />imperialism; that his is a Holy War; that Kuwait was invaded to <br />free Palestinians; and he has called upon the many Arab peoples to <br />rise up in open rebellion against both their own sovereign <br />governments-and various western powers to subvert the unity of the <br />many nations which have. condemned his open aggression; <br />WHEREAS, the events of the past several months disclose to the <br />contrary that the actions and intentions of Saddam Hussein are <br />overtly unjust; that his many assertions are abject lies, founded <br />upon a transparent attempt to mask that which can only be termed <br />as the tyrannous desire to impose his will over the entire Middle <br />East, as well as the world beyond; <br />WHEREAS, we express deep regret that the many efforts of peace <br />have failed and that the various economic and related sanctions <br />imposed upon Iraq have ultimately been concluded by the United <br />Nations and our own government to be ineffectual in resolving the <br />crisis in the Middle East. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio, <br />are resolved to support the policy of the President of the United <br />States, Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Forces, the <br />
