RESOLUTION NO. 91- 19 INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen and Council as a Whole A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL, 1991 AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH AND AFFIRMING AND SUPPORTING THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF ALL CITIZENS TO LIVE~WHERE THEY CHOOSE WHEREAS, the United States Congress has adopted a national policy of promoting, within constitutional limitations, fair housing throughout the country; and WHEREAS, one of our nation's most cherished freedoms is the right of all persons to live where they choose and can .afford, without fear of persecution or intimidation because of their race, color, religion, sex, ancestry, handicap or national origin; and WHEREAS, the Council further finds that the general welfare and economic stability of the community benefit from a stable, integrated community, including the benefits of interracial, interreligious, and intercultural associations; and WHEREAS, since the passage of the Federal Fair Housing Act in April, 1968, the month of April has been designated for commemoration of the fair housing law; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: SECTION 1. The Mayor and Council recognize April, 1991 as Fair Housing Month and supports the constitutional rights of all citizens to live where they choose. SECTION 2. The Mayor and Council affirm their commitment to open housing and equal housing opportunity for all citizens and assure the rights of every citizen to buy, rent, or sell housing without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, handicap, or familial status, guaranteed by Title VIII of the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1968 as amended, and the laws of the State of Ohio. SECTION 3. Every agency of this government shall lend full support to the prosecution of any acts of intimidation, harassment, or violence designed to prevent the free exercise of
