__ ORDINANCE NO. 2000- 15 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE <br />.. ESTABLISHING THE MAXIMUM COMPENSATION <br />' FOR THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF COUNCIL <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 7, of the Mayfield Village Charter, provides that <br />compensation for the Mayor and Council may not be increased unless enacted by <br />ordinance and submitted to the electorate for approval by a majority vote thereof; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of Council have not received an increase in <br />their compensation since January 1, 1994, approved by the voters in November 1993; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council are required to participate in numerous <br />meetings, including regular Council meetings, caucus meetings, committee meetings, as <br />well as special public meetings for the many and varied improvements throughout the <br />Village of Mayfield, and the Mayor is obligated to fulfill all of the managerial obligations for <br />the Safety Department as well as overseeing all other departments and services within the <br />Village; and <br />WHEREAS, it has been financially determined that a modest increase since 1994 <br />would put the Mayor at Nineteen Thousand Dollars ($19,000.00) per annum, members of <br />Council at Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($7,500.00) per annum, and the <br />President of Council at Eight Thousand Dollars ($8,000.00) per annum. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That pursuant to the authority of Article III, Section 7, the <br />compensation ofthe Mayorshall notexceed Nineteen Thousand Dollars ($19,000.00), and <br />the compensation of the President of Council shall not exceed Eight Thousand Dollars <br />($8,000.00), and the compensation of the remaining members of Council shall not exceed <br />Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($7,500.00) per annum, beginning January 1, 2001. <br />SECTION 2. That the question to be placed on the ballot for all Village electors on <br />November 7, 2000, shall read as follows: <br />SHALL THE COMPENSATION OF THE <br />POSITION OF MAYOR BE ESTABLISHED SO <br />AS NOT TO EXCEED NINETEEN THOUSAND <br />DOLLARS ($19,000.00) PERANNUM; AND THE <br />COMPENSATION OF THE MEMBERS OF <br />COUNCIL BE ESTABLISHED SO AS TO LIMIT <br />SAME FROM EXCEEDING SEVEN THOUSAND <br />FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($7,500.00) PER <br />
