ORDINANCE NO. 2000- 1s <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING SECTION 549.08 RESTRICTING THE USE OF <br />ARCHERY EQUIPMENT AND OTHER DANGEROUS ITEMS <br />WHEREAS, The Police Chief and the Ordinance Review Committee have reviewed <br />the existing Section 549.08, relating to the discharge of firearms, and have suggested an <br />amendment that would apply to archery equipment, blow guns, spears, sling shots, and <br />other such items. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That Section 549.08 of the Codified Ordinances is hereby and herein <br />amended to read as follows: <br />549/08 Discharging Firearms; Use of Archery <br />Equipment, Blow Guns, Darts, Spears, and <br />Sling Shots; Target Shooting. <br />(a) No person shall discharge a firearm or shoot, <br />force or throw by means of a firearm, air-gun, or <br />other arm or implement, a lead, iron. or other <br />hard substance, within the corporate limits of the <br />municipality. <br />(b) No person shall shoot,~roject, .launch or <br />propel an arrow, bolt or similarly dangerous <br />projectile by means of a bow, crossbow, sling <br />shot, blow gun, spear, dart, or similar device, <br />within the corporate limits of the municipality, <br />unless same is done within the confines of a <br />protected structure which will prevent any <br />projectiles from going outside and/or beyond the <br />,property lines of the authorized premises as <br />provided for in Section (c) hereafter. <br />,(~ This section shall not prohibit gun target <br />shooting by the owner of land and his guests <br />having his written permission on a range <br />approved in writing by the Chief of Police, <br />providing such gun target shooting is at all times <br />conducted under the direct supervision of the <br />Chief of Police or by some person designated by <br />the Chief of Police.
