Cablevision/Mayfield Village Franchise Agreement 2000
Page No. -25-
EXIiIBIT "D"
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
Grantee has built the current state of the art H.F.C. (Hybrid Fiber Coax) system employing fiber
to the serviced area architecture. When fully deployed, the cable system will have a minimum
bandwidth of 550 MHz in the forward direction capable of delivery when construction is
,completed of 77-80 channels, or a combination of analog and digital services. The system is
organized through layers of headends, digital hub sites and fiber optic nodes.
The central headend is configured where possible for redundant backup equipment for signal
processing and satellite delivered signals. Commercial power is backed up by standby
generators capable of-operating the headend for indefinite periods. The central headend is also
the monitoring point for transmission quality of subscriber signals and is the primary operations
point for system network performance monitoring.
Programming information received at the headend is transported either to fiber optic nodes in
analog format or to digital hub sites transmitted in an uncompressed digital format. Signals that
are transported to the digital hub sites are sent through a fault to tolerant ring. The digital hub
monitors signal loss while the ring provides automatic rerouting of signal by switching to an
alternate source. Each hub site is backed for loss of commercial power by a standby generator
capable of operating the hub site for an indefinite period of time. The status and performance of
each hub site will be monitored at the central headend by the system network performance
monitor.
Programming is. ultimately delivered to the customer through a hybrid combination of a fiber
node, coaxial cable and fiber to the service area. System design is configured to limit the
number of potential homes served by a signal node to 500 - 1500-homes. All system and power
supply will have a status monitoring module integrated inib system network performance
monitoring.
M & M 1999 Page 25 of 28
