I will outline some of the changes.
At the outset, please understand that this contract is the combined language of
myself and the attorney for the Methodist Church. The original drafts of this were an
accumulation of language that both sides had discussed and reworked. More than half
of the language in this agreement was included as a result of my drafting at the
insistence of the Mayor and Finance Director. Although it comes from their computer
system, the language itself did not originate just with the attorneys for the Methodist
Church.
Please understand that I strongly feel that the Village is very well protected in all
instances with this agreement. You should remember that several months ago, there
were a number of items which I disagreed with, and they have all been changed to my
satisfaction and with the language that I requested. To suggest that your Law Director
is working. for the Church and not for you is certainly not accurate. My malpractice
insurance is much greater than the cost of this deal, and would be available to the
Village should I have made some serious error or omission in protecting the Village's
rights, not to mention, of course, my personal reputation. I have handled millions of
dollars of transactions for this Village, without any mistakes and without any threat to
the best interests of this Village.
