'~I~~ P <br />~ttgfielil ~i(ltt~e <br />Resolution 1Vo. 98-14 <br />A Resolution ~n Appreciation of Governor George Voinovich <br />WHEREAS, George Voinovich has served the City of Cleveland as Mayor, being elected in 1979 and overseeing <br />the economic renaissance of the City and serving the City for ten years during which time the City earned the title of All <br />America City and the nickname of "The Comeback City"; and <br />WHEREAS, during his tenure as Mayor, George Voinovich was recognized by numerous professional <br />associations, national publications and organizations for the quality of service he provided to the City of Cleveland being <br />named as one of four distinguished urban mayors by the National Urban Coalition, cited as one of the top three mayors in <br />the country by City and State magazine and elected president of the National League of Cities by his peers in 1985, and <br />WHEREAS, Governor Voinovich has served Cuyahoga County as both Cuyahoga County Commissioner from <br />1997 to 1978 and as Cuyahoga County Auditor form 1971 to 1976 undertaking in both. offices management practices and <br />policies which cut costs and improved the efficiency of those offices earning him the "Outstanding Public Service Award" <br />from the National Association of County Officials; and <br />WHEREAS, Governor Voinovich has served the State of Ohio as an Assistant Attorney General, State <br />Representative, Lieutenant Governor and Governor and during his two terms as Governor, George Voinovich has <br />continued in his efforts to improve the efficiency of government, reform education, improve the business climate and <br />enhance the quality of life of all Ohioans; and <br />WHEREAS, during his tenure as Governor, George Voinovich ensured Ohio's role as a national leader and world- <br />class competitor and has been recognized by his fellow governors for his efforts having been elected a member of the <br />National Governors Association's Executive Committee, its Vice-Chairman and Chairman; and <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village has benefited directly from Governor Voinovich's tenure as Governor having <br />received invaluable assistance from the Ohio Department of Development and the staff at his Region 8 Office and grants <br />in excess of. one-half million dollars; and <br />WHEREAS; Governor Voinovich's second and final term as Governor of Ohio is quickly drawing to a close, <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO THAT: <br />Governor George Voinovich be and is hereby recognized for his devoted service to the City of Cleveland, the County of <br />Cuyahoga, the State of Ohio and Mayfield Village. <br />Section 1. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized to prepare duplicate original copies of this Resolution. One such <br />original shall be presented to Governor Voinovich. The other original shall be placed in the permanent records of the <br />Village as a lasting tribute to Governor Voinovich. <br />Section 2.
