RESOLUTION NO. 2008-06 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION <br />IN SUPPORT OF ISSUE 15, THE CUYAHOGA COUNTY <br />HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES 4.8 MILL REPLACEMENT <br />AND REDUCTION LEVY. <br />WHEREAS, this is one of two County levies that support our most vulnerable citizens; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, it is currently a 4.9 Mill levy which will be replaced and reduced to a 4.8 <br />Mill levy; and <br />WHEREAS, the levy revenue provides the base funding for the County's child welfare, <br />public assistance, senior citizen and homeless prevention agencies, as well as funding for the <br />MetroHealth Hospital, the local share of foster care, adoption and services to children at risk, <br />including early childhood programs; and <br />WHEREAS, early childhood programs insure that our youngest residents receive services <br />and support necessary to grow up safe, healthy and prepared for school and that as these children <br />are supported in their growth and development, they will continue to thrive as productive future <br />citizens of our regions; and <br />WHEREAS, senior citizens, through the "Option" and "Passport" programs, receive <br />home health care assistance in their own homes which help them maintain their independence <br />and prevent them from needing to move into assisted living or nursing home facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, this levy is a critical piece of our community safety net, available for all of <br />us at any time. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD VILLAGE, <br />OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That the Village of Mayfield and its Council recommend and support Issue <br />15, the Cuyahoga County Health and Human Services 4.8 Mill Replacement and Reduction Levy <br />which provides base funding for the County's child welfare, public assistance, senior citizen and <br />homeless prevention agencies, as well as funding for the MetroHealth Hospital, the local share of <br />foster care, adoption and services to children at risk. <br />
